Be sure to wash your hands after transferring your wet, just-washed laundry to the dryer. Wet laundry is teeming with fecal matter and bacteria, most notably hepatitis A virus, norovirus, rotavirus, salmonella, and E. coli. And then, if possible, kill it with fire on the hot & heavy cycle in the dryer.

And that is why all our underwear is thrown in with the whites on a very hot wash with bleach. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this - I'm wondering if it matters if your kids are out of diapers or not. I'm a new follower from the Finding New Friends weekend blog hop.

Hi Tania and Dayna! :)
ReplyDeleteDayna, no, actually the article I linked to mentions that good old underwear is responsible for most of the bacteria and, obviously, fecal matter. It's much worse when you wash kids' underwear, apparently, because they don't wipe well (shudder), but the article doesn't even mention cloth diapers. I assume that poopy diapers make the situation much worse, unless you are vigilant about using bleach and hot water.
