Post Script

Speaking of hotels, I gotta tell ya, I learned something this day. A new technique, if you will.

Howie Mandel, my kindred spirit and fellow OCDer, doesn't bother wearing shoes the entire time in a hotel, like I do. In a John Tesh interview, he explained that he orders a couple dozen extra towels and creates a path, a towel stairway to his own personal OCD heaven, and tells the maids not to disturb them. (I go a step further and forgo all maid service entirely, lest they destroy the cleanliness I've wrought.) He even puts towels down in the shower to as not to have to step upon the actual tub or tile.

I never thought of creating a towel path in the entire hotel room (although I'm not sure why, since I do cover the whole floor of the bathroom with towels). Next time, assuming I'm ever brave enough to enter a filthy sex lair hotel room again, I might just have to go this route.

And if maids think I'm insane?

Well.

  1. Your post reminds me of a show I watched. It was a young woman who cleaned all the time. Her boyfriend took her to a nice hotel for a romantic getaway, hoping she would relax. Nope, first thing she did was inspect the sheets ans get clean ones because of the stain she saw. Then she went to cleaning and spraying lysol.
As I read your posts, I think about how I can have a fleeting thought to the many people in the room before me (at a hotel) but it doesn't stir my thoughts up the way it does for you.
You do a great job describing and explaining how OCD can get a hold of you and what you deal with.

  2. I totally saw that same show. And I completely related with her. :/

The last vacation we took, we had our daughter with us, and it was incredibly hard to try to just "let go" of some of my fears and phobias. I mean, I went crazy cleaning the place anyway, and we didn't have maid service (except to bring us towels), but it took so much effort to NOT freak out constantly when my daughter would touch stuff or walk on the carpet. Ugh.
